How Bloom Roster Care Builds Emotional Resilience in Our Clients?

Resilience is not just about the ability to withstand adversity; it is a multifaceted process that involves adapting, growing, and then thriving in the face of life's challenges. Fostering resilience, developing emotional stamina, cognitive flexibility and giving them a sense of control over their circumstances. For some individuals, resilience is somewhat instinctive. Others, you may find, can have challenges in recovering from loss, trauma, or different levels of adversity. As a Social Worker, Counsellor or Mental Health Practitioner, you will be able to train your clients to have the confidence and competency to engage with adversity.

There are eight ways we can foster resilience in our clients.

  1. Teach them to self-nurture.

Creating a self-nurturing practice can not only help us to calm our minds and bodies, but it also prepares us to go forward to engage with whatever life sends our way. We want to assist our clients in looking at why it is important to engage in self-nurturing to be able to break away from life’s pressures and quieten. The more they can take care of themselves, create time to feel their feelings and check in with their day, they will find that they can more comfortably manage the rigours of everyday life.

  1. Promote that they develop a healthy perception of self.

This is not to say we want to support our clients in developing an unrealistic, distorted view of themselves.  Allowing clients to learn to have an honest, balanced, but compassionate perspective of themselves and their lives gives them the chance to build confidence in their abilities, the ability to problem-solve, and to trust their instincts; thereby enabling them to build greater resilience.  When clients have confidence in their ability to overcome, to work through things, and to figure things out, they will neither need to look nor rely on someone else to save them, nor will they feel incapable of saving themselves.

  1. Help them learn to keep everything in perspective.

In scenarios where clients experience difficult challenges or painful situations, helping the client to view and frame these events in context with the broader picture of their life and faith will help them to keep things in perspective as well as keep them focused on what they can control.  Being able to develop the ability to see the big picture is substantial because when every problem feels catastrophic, life quickly starts to feel unmanageable and outside of one's control; eventually, they just give up.

  1. Show the ability that having hope keeps alive.

Having just a hope can change everything in life. Hope allows clients to believe that there is good out there for them, that God is up to something even if it doesn't look like it at the moment.  Resilient people can look beyond the immediate situation to be able to find some meaning or purpose in the situation.  We assist their clients by encouraging them to feed their faith to develop a deep, abiding relationship with God, which will provide strength, hope, and resilience in the most challenging of times.

  1. Model the importance of relationships.

Having connections to important family or friends, or others, can be important for developing resilience. There is a time and place for solitude, but we are wired for relationships.  Watch for signs of isolation when working with your clients and encourage their involvement in the community. Allowing others to help and support them activates their internal resources for fostering their self-help. The ability to help others produces a movement beyond oneself and encourages empathy and caring for others.

  1. Help them to embrace change.

Some goals may be unachievable as a consequence of undue circumstances.  We all have our limits.  We all have obstacles, fair or not. Accepting situations that cannot change enables your clients to concentrate on actions they can change, goals they can accomplish.  Concentration on fairness is draining individuals' energy that could be more productively used to find adaptive alternatives.

  1. Empower them to get moving towards their goals.

When life doesn't seem to be fair, and your clients feel hopeless and helpless, many will eventually give up or feel stuck. When people face challenges, it can be easy to disengage and just wish them away. We can encourage our clients, instead, to begin moving forward.  Even small steps can help many people from feeling stuck and help to develop forward momentum in their pursuit of their goals.

  1. Cultivate a mindset of self-discovery.

Clients frequently learn something new about themselves as a result of their struggles. Once the people have suffer from this, often become stronger and more vulnerable, feel more valuable, have a stronger faith, and feel more grateful for life, because they have experienced great suffering. often become stronger and more vulnerable, feel more valuable, have a stronger faith, and feel more grateful for life.
